Servicing by US will NOT affect your Harley-Davidson Warranty – why?
Recent incidents have encouraged me to correct a statement that is being continually made by certain dealers that “Only the Official Harley-Davidson Dealer” can work on your bike during the warranty period - well this has NOT been true since 1st October 2005*
For too long now customers and friends have been, and continue to be told by an “Official Dealer” that only they can service and work on their bikes during the warranty period.
Legislation against restrictive practices in the UK was addressed when we joined the EU and all the legal bits are contained in; “EC Competition Law (Articles 84 and 85 Enforcement Regulations 2001; EC Regulation 1400/2002; Regulation 17 of the 1998 Competition Act), fully implemented in the UK on 1st October 2005”
It’s about time this tactic used by some dealers to influence customers was stopped, as this “law” is now over 5* years old perhaps some re-training is necessary.
I have received a letter sent by the Customer Service Manager of Harley-Davidson® UK & Ireland that states; This letter is to confirm that your warranty will be valid for its full period even if taken to a Non-Harley-Davidson appointed Main-Dealer for a service as long as it follows current legislation on “Block Exemption”.
Please let those know that may tell you otherwise, we and indeed all the good Independent Dealers out there can service any bike under warranty or not provided we comply with the legislation..
You the customer are VERY important to us, the choice must be yours, and we will always do our best for you whatever you ask us of us
*Note; as with everything shrouded in complex legislation this does get slightly clouded in Law, initially “Motor Vehicles” did not encompass “Motor Cycles”, over time and for good reasons the manufactures all came into line, much the same as it has recently been decided we now “drive” our bikes as opposed to “ride” them. Thankfully since 2005 the industry as a whole now abides with Enforcement Regulations.
